The British Council have a great site for EAL Learners to improve their vocabulary whilst  playing online games, like Beat the Goalie, Penalty Shoot-outs etc and all games contain 3 levels of difficulty. It is a perfect way for boys ,who try to avoid reading, to improve word recognition of high frequency words. There is also a section for Teachers which includes lesson plans. Some of the content is only available if you sign in but all the games are available for free,  and no sign in is required!
